Employee Policy – Policies in Practice

The purpose of PiP is to develop your policy awareness and provide best practice guidance through offering standard or tailored sessions to those with line management responsibilities. PiP is a support mechanism for you and your teams and these sessions are designed to develop the general management skills that you need to apply the policies and procedures effectively and will cover how to handle certain conversations to help build your confidence in dealing with the staffing issues that arise day to day.

The support provided by Policies in Practice focuses on the practical application of Policy, Procedure and Process. In particular how we can better support managers in understanding and interpreting Policies and Procedures and the soft skills attached to these areas.

Please direct queries in relation to Policies in Practice by email to pip@aberdeenshire.gov.uk

Worksmart

The Flexible Working Procedure is under review and will be available soon.

Employees are encouraged to discuss and request flexible working informally with their manager in the first instance.  This does not require an application to be submitted.

Should the informal request be refused or should the employee prefer, a formal request can be made by completing an application form and sending it directly to the line manager for consideration.

Legally, all flexible working requests, including appeals, must be considered and decided on within a period of three months from the first receipt, unless agreed with the employee to extend this period. The timeframe begins as soon as a fully completed application is received by the line manager.

Failure to provide a fully completed application will lead to a delay in considering the request.

Zero Tolerance guidelines and materials

Aberdeenshire Council is committed to providing a safe working environment for each and every one of its employees. Violence, aggression, bullying and harassment can result in the safety of employees being compromised.

Guidance provided in this section will advise managers and support employees to successfully manage challenging situations in their workplace.

Managers should order any leaflets, postcards or posters required for the workplace from the Design and Print team by emailing designandprint@aberdeenshire.gov.uk

If you feel your team would benefit from training to help deal with these challenging issues, please contact training.courses@aberdeenshire.gov.uk who can discuss and arrange the most suitable training options.
