Are you keeping up to speed with changes?

Many of the transformational projects the council is investing in at the moment come under the banner of Business Transformation, with a senior board in place to oversee projects. There’s a continued focus on communicating a whole range of activity which is ongoing and I thought I’d pick up on this to highlight the need for every employee to be involved.

I have mentioned before the need to continually modernise the organisation so we’re fit for purpose, and this inevitably means that change will always be with us. But change isn’t a bad thing. These developments are about improvement, innovation and evolving to meet the needs of customers.

In carrying forward change we need to be sensitive AND tenacious; sensitive to the impact changes can have on customers and employees and tenacious in carrying change forward. At the end of the day an organisation that doesn’t adapt does not survive and those involved in various projects are doing an excellent job to progress key aims on behalf of the council.

Now this may leave you wondering how you can be involved. Firstly, improvement is something that should be part of our everyday working life – that means if you see something within your area of work you think could be done better then go for it, if it’s a change that requires support then seek it and if it’s an improvement you could share with employees in similar roles then talk to them.

Keep up to speed with editions of All Go, the business transformation newsletter (there’s a new one out next week), and in there you’ll find details of key contacts for all of the projects under business transformation, including our Improvement Manager who can point you in the direction of helpful individuals within your service who can help you with improvement activities.

Procurement Achieving Customer Excellence (PACE) is another programme that won’t succeed without us all working together, in this case to become more commercially aware. Do you buy goods on behalf of the council? Are there opportunities to make money in the area you work in? Be part of creating the council of the future.

In one form or another all of the projects moving forward under business transformation need your support to have any lasting success, whether that’s embracing new technologies being brought in and actively seeking the knowledge and training you’ll need to make the most of it, or being open to new ways of working, communicating, interacting and managing information. Simply asking for information if you don’t feel you’re in the loop and helping to pass this onto colleagues is another important role for all of us.

Being part of business transformation is about considering how you can help the organisation to change and adapt, to make the council as effective and efficient as possible in our shared goal to improve the lives of others.
