Police encourage online vigilance

An

internet safety poster campaign focused on combatting terrorism is being displayed in Aberdeenshire Council premises. The poster encourages everyone that has access to the internet to report any suspicious content relating to terrorism to the Home Office website

.

Material of interest to the Referral Unit includes:

•articles

•images

•speeches or videos that promote terrorism

•content encouraging people to commit acts of terrorism

•websites made by terrorist organisations

•videos of terrorist attacks

Chief Inspector Elaine Logue said: “The internet is becoming more and more widely used by those supporting terrorism or those involved in the promotion of terrorism across the world. The Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit’s role is specific to the internet and forms part of the UK government’s wider Contest strategy to tackle Terrorism.”
