Find out how to make mealie with new school menus

Across Aberdeenshire over 13,500 primary school pupils on average sit down to lunch each day. Pupils, parents, carers and education staff will now be able to learn more about their meals with the launch of interactive menus.

Aberdeenshire Council’s school catering team has developed new online menus with links to recipe pages which include photographs and information related to food allergies.

The interactive menu was launched this week (Monday, April 20) and adds to the comprehensive information that people can access about the school catering service on the council website such as free school meals; medically prescribed diets; multi-lingual menus and school menu leaflets.

Catering manager Allan Doig said: “It is important that parents and the public can access details of the range of food available to pupils in Aberdeenshire schools.

“The interactive menus will help parents assist children to make informed meal choices.  Many parents have asked for our recipes and now have the opportunity to access these online to try out at home.”

The catering service provided to Aberdeenshire’s primary and special schools was awarded a Bronze Food for Life Catering Mark from the Soil Association in 2014 in recognition of the fresh and healthy food it provides.
