Latest ALDO courses

Whether starting a career with Aberdeenshire Council, became a supervisor or manager, need to use new technology, require guidance on policies or knowledge in promoting a healthy and safe environment where customers are ensured of as good a service as possible, there is something here for you.

The latest new courses are:

HR Policy: Working Time – The UK Working Time Regulations established legal limits relating to weekly working time, rest periods and annual leave, with special provisions for the protection of night workers and young people at work.  The aim of this course is to help enhance the understanding of the Working Time policy which details Aberdeenshire Council’s approach towards compliance with these regulations.

Communicate in Print 2 – Communicate in Print 2 software is available to ALL schools (Primary, Secondary and Special) in Aberdeenshire.  It has been approved by SLT and Educational Psychology and is the preferred communication software in Aberdeenshire.

This software enables communication through symbolisation.  In the classroom, this will enable you to prepare visual timetables or flash cards for individual students requiring alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) or make your school accessible to all by using symbols to signpost everyday objects.

Working with Women Offenders – This course will tell you about Aberdeenshire’s Criminal Justice Service for women.   It details the background to the development of the service, as well as practical information on how to work effectively with women, and will be useful not just to practitioners in criminal justice, but practitioners from other services who routinely work with women involved in criminal justice too.

SDS – Finance Guidance for Practitioners (Adult Services & Older People) – This course will provide a brief overview of the forms required to set up an Individual budget and how client contributions are calculated.  The course will also cover the changes made to the 2015/16 Charging Policy for Non Residential Care and Support.

The course also includes some short films with examples of questions you may be asked by a client, in relation to the forms and charging.

Managing Difficult Teams/Individuals – This one day workshop and ALDO module is offered to all line managers.  It is designed to challenge and support managers wishing to develop their conflict resolution skills, which will ultimately assist in the management of difficult teams and people.

Health & Safety – Toolbox Talks – The toolbox talks below are a very useful training tool for line managers to provide staff with relevant health and safety information on tasks they carry out at work.  The short toolbox talk is an ideal method of getting the safety message across at team briefs, induction and staff meetings.  This course contains advice on Asbestos, COSHH, Fire Assessment, Manual Handling, Risk Assessment and many more.

Sensory Support Services – Hearing SupportThe sensory support service works throughout Aberdeenshire to support children and young people from birth to school leaving age who have a sensory impairment. In this course you will learn about different types of hearing loss, different types of amplification, strategies you can use in the classroom to promote inclusion of those with a hearing loss.

Using Talentlink – This is a course especially for staff who are involved in recruitment for Aberdeenshire council, it will show you how to set up new jobs and manage your interviews.

The course will deal with approving a position, reviewing application the form, working with a panel and the interview stage.

Are you logging into ALDO with your Username as the same number as your payroll number?  If you manage a team, are they logging in with the correct numbers?  ALDO’s login username MUST be the same as your correct payroll number to allow your record of training to be transferred to EMIS.  Please check and if you notice that you are not using your correct payroll number to login, please email training.courses@aberdeenshire.gov.uk with a note of both numbers (the one you are using and the correct one) and they will correct things on ALDO for you.  This will not affect any training you have done and it will not change your password unless you request for this to be reset.

If you don’t have an ALDO account please email training.courses@aberdeenshire.gov.uk with a note of your name, service, payroll number and email address and they will help you get set up, or if you have forgotten your password, use the “Yes, help me to log in” button on the login page this will send an email with a temporary password to the email address registered on your account.
