Last week councillors met to agree our budgets for the coming financial year.

This morning we caught up with Chief Executive Jim Savege to give us the staff perspective on the decisions and what they really mean.

Headlines:

  • Some comprehensive debates and discussion, resulting in a revenue budget of £546 million for the coming year and a capital budget of over £130 million.
  • Investment in education with protection afforded for work to increase teacher numbers.
  • Council Tax increased – going up by 2.5%
  • £3 million in support announced for business rates protections.
  • Councillors agreed to £21 million worth of changes to the way we deliver services. We need to keep pace with a changing world and ensure we modernise where we can in the way services are delivered.
  • Staff encouraged to look over the budget decisions, and discuss with your own management teams what these mean for you.  
  • Aberdeenshire staff have a great reputation in the community and your hard work is appreciated and recognised.
