Council's Gaelic Language Plan is now in operation

The Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005 was passed by the Scottish Parliament with a view to securing the status of the Gaelic language as an official language of Scotland, commanding equal status to the English language. Under the Act, Aberdeenshire Council is required to prepare and publish a Gaelic Language Plan

Aberdeenshire Council undertook extensive work to prepare the Gaelic Language Plan. It sets out how Gaelic will be used by the council within Aberdeenshire. Work is underway within services to deliver the actions within the plan. Progress reports will be reported through the Equalities & Human Rights Strategy Board. Annual progress reports will be considered by Bòrd na Gàidhlig during the lifetime of the plan.
