Article Body:

The Make Aberdeenshire More Active group (MAMA) is a multi-agency working group which has been established to help support all partners to reduce sedentary behaviour and embed physical activity into daily life and make it an easy cost effective and normal choice for Aberdeenshire residents.

They have launch a new survey in order to gain a baseline of how much activity a sample of Aberdeenshire residents are doing and the barriers and facilitators to being more active.

Physical activity is a broad term to describe movement to the body that uses energy. It can be as simple as walking, gardening or housework. This survey has been developed to help the MAMA group monitor progress and identify what action is required. The MAMA group has identified three key priorities linked with the Scottish Government’s Activity Outcome Framework.

The three priorities are:

1.   Encouraging everyone to be more active/less sedentary, including those who are currently inactive, in their local communities with a focus on the physical activity pathway for people with long term conditions and those who are socially isolated/disadvantaged.

2.   Enabling active travel (e.g. walking and cycling), as the easy choice within and between our communities.

3.   Focus on increasing opportunities to be active/less sedentary for young people and people with disabilities/long-term conditions and those currently excluded/disadvantaged in terms of taking part in physical activity.

The survey will close on May 8, 2017
