Addressing the future

The decision to retire from the council at the end of this year has not been an easy one to make. I have agonized over it for several months, discussed it on numerous occasions with my wife, family and  close friends and finally decided it was the right time for myself and Aberdeenshire Council. This post is not so much a job as a lifestyle and I will miss it greatly, especially meeting  the many committed and talented staff that comprise Team Aberdeenshire.

The most common response I have received is “congratulations, what is your plan for the future?”

I have to say that after almost 42 years in public service, where my life has been dictated by diary commitments, the plan is to not have a plan for the first few months at least! My wife of course will have a different view and will have a list of all the things that should have been fixed, replaced or painted and there is always the garden.
