The Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements, more commonly known as MAPPA, are the arrangements through which the local authority, police, prison service and health services are required to share information, jointly assess risk and apply resources proportionately to manage the risk of serious harm posed to the public by relevant offenders.

This includes registered sex offenders, mentally disordered restricted patients and other offenders managed in the community who, by reason of their conviction, pose a risk of serious harm to the public.

The operation, scope and governance of MAPPA has seen many changes over the past 12 months, leading to the revision of the MAPPA Awareness package on ALDO. Colleagues who are currently involved in the MAPPA arrangements, and those who are interested in finding out more about what MAPPA is and how it operates are encouraged to visit the updated ALDO package. The brief introductory video will provide sufficient information for many staff, with the option to continue through further modules if more detail is required.

Whilst colleagues from criminal justice are most active in MAPPA, those engaged in children’s and housing services and health and social care are regularly engaged in the process and would benefit from undertaking the ALDO package.
